Nowhere is now here
Remembering is spinning time
The theme of the research was the poetic connection between time and motion. Inspired by the dervish Sama ritual, the rotations question the relation between the material and immaterial caught in-between the dance of the subject and the machine. Dervishes say that spining is a poetic way of disappearing.
By understanding the memory as a cyclic process, the artist states that remembering is never about linear recalling of the past snapshots, but rather that our memory is a continuous, constructive and ever changing process conditioned by our experience in here and now. At the Villa Manin art residency Ana created the kinetic object, that mirror the natural states of constant rotations on the micro and macro level of the personal and collective experience and its impacts on our memory. Each second the form of the fabric uniquely transforms, leaving the former loop behind, like the present moment continuously reshapes the meaning of the past one. The artwork circles around its own axis with the same speed, but is endlessly creating new waves, depending mostly on immeasurable factors.
